Overview - ESI Registration
ESI is a government of India-run institution that is under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Employees State Insurance (ESI) is a self-funded social security and health insurance programme for Indian workers.
During the duration of his incapacity, restoration of his health, and working capability, the employee enrolled under the ESI Act, 1948 is covered by the programme.
It provides financial support to compensate for the loss of pay during his absence due to illness, maternity leave, or an injury on the job. This plan covers his or her family member’s medical expenses.
Benefits of ESI Registration
An ESI registered person who has been unemployed for three years or more due to factory/workplace closure or invalidity is eligible to the following benefits: a.Unemployment Allowances equal to 50% of wages for a maximum of two years. b.Medical care from ESI Hospitals for self and family members throughout the period when the employee is receiving unemployment benefits. c.ESIC provides professional training to upgrade skills, as well as travel expenses.
Wage coverage
The main advantage of being enrolled with ESIC is that any certified illness would be reimbursed at 70% of the total wage. However, it should only last 91 days per year.

The medical expenses of any aged employee will be provided from ESIC.

Who requires ESI Registration
Every factory and defined establishment with ten or more regular employees and monthly earnings of less than Rs. 21,000/- is required to register for ESI.

What is ESIC Scheme ?

Is it Mandatory to register under the ESI?
Yes, it is mandated by Section 2A of the ESI Act, 1948, for every employer to get registered under ESI scheme within 15 days of the day of applicability to them.
What is a code number ?
It is a 17 digit unique identification number allotted to each organization registered under the provisions of the ESIC Act. After all the necessary details submission, this number is generated.
Is there any penalty for delayed Payment?
An employer who fails to pay within the stipulated time is required to pay penalty at 12% interest rate per annum for each delayed a day.
What is the procedure for an employer to register?
The designated employer is required to register, supplying all relevant information such as the establishment's name, address, and employer's name. They will receive a login id and password after completing the registration process, which will grant them access to the ESIC portal. The employer will then be given a code number to use as a reference.
